We want to save the world...one piece of paper at a time!
I am a self-contained special education teacher in a high poverty elementary school.
I have 10 special needs students in grades kindergarten through third grade who are full of energy and excitement. My students have a range of academic, social and emotional needs. They have a thirst for learning and for the most part, love being in school. These students work so hard despite the many challenges they face, between learning disabilities, disrupted home lives, and living in poverty. Our classroom is truly like their home away from home. We are a family and everyone works to do their best and be their best everyday!
My Project
I am seeking binders and dividers to help my students and our classroom become more environmentally friendly! We use so much paper and throw out so much waste everyday! With binders and dividers, I will be able to print single copies of worksheets and activities, put them in protective sleeves in the binders, and allow students to use dry erase markers to complete activities. By having two colors of binders, green and periwinkle, I can put math activities in green binders, and reading activities in the periwinkle colored binders.
This is so important in helping my by making simple little changes in their daily lives. Additionally, the books about recycling will help to teach my students the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling! My kids love to be read to and these books selected will serve as great tools to help my students, see and hear about how they can better take care of the environment!
Please help me, "Teach for the Planet" by becoming a more eco-friendly classroom.
By reducing the amount of paper we use and waste, I can teach my students how to easily reuse materials to help save the environment! We need to learn how to take care of and preserve the wonderful planet we live on!
