Tea Time for Global Explorers

My Students

We are located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the largest city in the state, with about twenty percent of residents below the poverty level.

My students come from a diverse set of backgrounds and each and every one of them brings a fresh, unique perspective to the classroom.

As freshmen, they are just beginning their high school careers: they are inquisitive, determined, and focused to make the best out of their school experience.

Every day, the students come to class with questions about current affairs, some obscure historical event they heard about, or just something that has always intrigued them that they want to know more about. Despite the hardships of starting high school during a pandemic, they arrive eager to learn! Their energy and determination to succeed are contagious and motivates me every day.

My Project

This coming school year (2021-2022) my goal is to start a Global Explorers Club. The club will serve to explore the world through culture, music, movies and food. Many of my young scholars have not had an opportunity to travel, this will give them a virtual chance to see and experience the world beyond our small corner of it.

One activity that I would love to do with my club is a tea ceremony, we will discuss the tradition, significance, and cultural background- then we will partake in our own version of a tea ceremony.

Many of my students have never tried tea before, this would be a great learning opportunity for them!
