My Students

If you step into our Life Skills room you won’t hear our kids use the word can't. I teach in a special needs class of eight students. My school is such a loving environment where our students come from diverse backgrounds but act as one big family.

Our students' abilities range from medium to low gross motor skills.

In our class our students learn more than reading and math. We focus on Life Skills as a whole. Our students' skill levels vary. Focusing on the skills they need when they step out of the classroom helps them become more independent, and builds their confidence.

My Project

This learning set requires multi level thinking, fine motor manipulation, and encourages imaginative play. Our students are in second and third grade, but have special developmental and physical needs.

This LEGO Cafe set would enrich our learning environment, and provide opportunities for developmental play, group and team building challenges, nutritional education, and just a lot of make believe play.

A Lego set has been on our wish list for a while now, but we are hoping this Donors Choose project will help make it a reality. The LEGO Cafe set will help our students work on their fine motor skills.

Thank you from everybody in Mrs. Shaw’s Life Skills class for helping to make this wish a reality.

We also added a storage Gridworks wall to our project, so we can keep our tools and toys up out of the way to give space for wheelchairs and equipment to move around.
