Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The title one high school Reading and Language Arts students have a sense of hope and desire to succeed, in spite their daily challenges of living in undesirable home life conditions without appropriate basic school and technological supplies. As a result, the teacher always attempts to provide a safe haven for them at school by decorating the classroom, purchasing pencils, notebooks, erasers in order to motivate and empower the students to maintain a positive mindset in class. Once they feel confident enough to proceed with the daily lessons, they still are in need of the basic technological tools needed to academically achieve success at grade level and beyond the twenty first century.
My Project
With these innovative technological tools such as the oculus rifts, the iPad, and the audiobooks, more at risk students will have multiple cognitive opportunities to review, reflect, and improve their reading and writing deficiencies. Apps will be downloaded to motivate and empower students to read and research more about class textual themes, grapple complex terminologies, experience virtual reality trips outside their school community, share their experiences when writing a well written grade level essay or when completing a project based learning product.
Moreover, the technological equipment and audiobooks purchased will empower dyslexic and second language readers to become actively engaged in deep academic conversations about grade level text topics such as the Holocaust, Bullying, Human Trafficking, Volunteerism , Censorship, and Immigration.
Furthermore, the students will experience a sense of self achievement as independent learners in their small differentiated literacy sessions.
