My students need an Indoor Trapeze Bar Swing Set, floor chair, Ocean light projector, and the books Gorilla Thumps and Bear Hugs and Breathe Like a Bear to help increase their learning.
My students are such an amazing group of "little learners." They are curious and adventurous as they explore the wonderful world of Pre K. Their smiles and laughter make me the luckiest teacher. More than half of my students are from low-income households. Our school is a Title I school located in Florida. Our classroom is comprised of pre-kindergarten students from 3 years old to 5 years old with special needs.
Our class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
We have 9 students that are eager to learn and challenge their disabilities in preparing for kindergarten.
My Project
The 3-in-1 Indoor Playset will allow us to create our own playground in our classroom. Providing a great source of sensory integration therapy and imaginative fun. The support bar installs easily in a doorway, and kids can choose from the trapeze bar or strap swing depending on their mood or specific therapy needs.
Swinging helps heightens the vestibular system and body awareness and sends positive signals to the brain, which benefits focus, attention, motor control and posture.
The trapeze bar helps strengthen hand grip, fine motor skills, and upper body control. The strap swing helps improves trunk control, posture, and both upper and lower extremity strengthening.
The floor chair will provide me comfort as I read to my students the books Gorilla Thumps and Bear Hugs and Breathe Like a Bear. Breathe Like a Bear is a beautifully illustrated collection of mindfulness exercises designed to teach kids techniques for managing their bodies, breath, and emotions. Through the book, Gorilla Thumps and Bear Hugs my students will learn about the scientifically proven technique commonly known as “Tapping” and how you can use it to overcome stress, anxiety, negative emotions, and much more. The Ocean light projector will help create a calming relaxing environment for theses mindful experiences.
These materials will allow my students to "tap" into their fullest potential as they develop to become aware of the mindful moments of life.
