Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hungry for a way that will make them know that they matter, my school is a Title I school that is 65% free and reduced lunch. But, the determination and love of learning are all over these students. Learning computer science will give them the tools that are needed in our technological/digitalized world so that they can be competitive and ready to share in the knowledge of computer science education. I love teaching CS to these students and seeing them grow as creators and not only consumers of technology. This gives them pride and ownership of their own learning and they understand that they matter because I was a software Developer and I am here teaching them the tools of the trade.
My Project
The goals of the Tapestry workshop are to share strategies, research-based practices, and field-tested good ideas for teaching computer science in a way that reaches all students Equitably
I will learn by exploring
1.Activities for gaining the interest of all students
2. How to interact with national experts on teaching and diversity practices
3. Meet university faculty desiring to serve as ambassadors to their schools.
4. Form a network of like-minded people for ongoing discussion and development.
These tools will benefit my students because I will gain knowledge on how to attract more and diverse students in CS courses by Influencing students, parents, colleagues, and administrators on the importance of your courses and the opportunities they provide.
Finally, I will have tools, on engaging the students in the exciting and rewarding field of computing.
Teaching computer science is important but understanding to engage and reach all students is the most important tools a CS teacher can have and that is why I am looking forward to attending this workshop on Tapestry of computer science workshop.
