Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every child needs a safe space to explore, interact, engage, and create. This is especially true of children living in vulnerable communities, and when children are expressing themselves through the arts. My classroom is the safest space possible for these budding artists.
My students are in middle school in an extremely low-income neighborhood.
They attend a public, government organized school where the staff and administration are extremely supportive of the arts, but there is no budget for supplies. The students have responded extremely well to visual arts and very much enjoy coming to class to create. We are trying to ensure that they have what they need to continue doing so.
My Project
Every student in my school will be spending their spring painting on canvases. We will be creating images that imitate the style of Pointillism and utilize the technique of tape resists. We already have the canvases, paint, brushes, and cups, but we still need the most vital materials - Q-tips for imitating Pointillism, painters tape for the Tape Resist, and plates to hold our paints.
