Hello! I teach Kindergarten in a Title 1 school in Durham, North Carolina. My classroom is very diverse. I have 10 ESL children, 4 Speech Language, 2 children with special needs, and 8 typically developing children. My children have diverse backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common. They love to learn. They may not come from the best homes or have the most, but we all work together to achieve our best!
...My children have a hard time staying still and keeping their hands to themselves. I used masking tape on the floor to give them their own "special space". We spend a large portion of our day on the carpet at meeting time. The carpet is where a large part of learning takes place. This is where we read stories, have discussions, complete projects, learn new concepts, sing, and dance. Lets just say it is our favorite part of the day and a major one at that. Our current carpet has had several issues over this school year. We have had a large problem with mold in our school and it has taken residence upon our carpets. The tape on the floor works great, however, it leaves dirty marks on the carpet, not to mention the fact that the children love to pull the tape up. Since the carpet is such an important place for us I would love to give the children a more comfortable environment where it will be easier for them to focus.
We are asking for a carpet that has pre-made squares on it. This will give the children their own "special space" to keep them focused and not have other distractions around them. When you have 24 five and six year olds you have got to have somewhere they all can fit. We would love it for someone to help us out with this. Thanks for your time and consideration.
