My Students
Located in the heart of Chinatown, our school is home to students of many cultures. The majority of students speak a minimum of 2 languages (and are learning Mandarin at school). As a first generation American myself, I can understand a lot of what my students are experiencing. They want to be successful so they can represent their families' countries.
With families that aren't always fluent in English, budgets are often tight and many students aren't able to provide their own school supplies.
Many families count on the school to provide the tools their child needs to succeed in school and help them become contributing citizens of the 21st Century. So, I need to provide my students with the tools they need to be successful. With your help, I can do that.
My Project
My students were born in the 21st century. They have grown up with technology all around them. Technology is not novel to them. It is fact.
My oldest son first started using an iPad when he was a year old, his brothers started using them even sooner.
It is a platform that students are comfortable with that has a lot of educational tools to offer. By introducing students to apps that are fun and educational, you open a door to learning that they can also access at home. We have some iPads in the classroom now, but would love to add a few so that more students can access math and literacy practice apps at a time. We also use our iPads to research topics like immigration and the cultural backgrounds of students and their families.
