Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember how much fun Music Class was when the teacher let you play drums and tap on the tambourine? My students are no different. They love beating on the drums, shaking the tamborines and taping on the tryangle.
I teach Pre-K through 5th grade Elem Music.
My children are in a Title 1 low income school. The only Fine Arts experiances many of these children get is at school. Our Music class enriches their regular curriculum in many ways. They see connections in Music and Math, Vocabulary, Social Studies, Reading and Science. They are learning new things in a very fun way. Many times a child will find out they have a talent they didn't know they poses.
My Project
We use the instruments for many different activities. The little ones use them for keeping the beat. The older children use them for ostinatos, and playing parts in a song or backing up a poem, or a dramatic play. My 4th grade recorder classes use them as part of orchestrations in the pieces we learn. I'm sure you are aware of all the budget cuts in Texas schools. This leaves little to no money for purchasing Elementary Music Instruments. Most of the instruments we have in our classroom are very old and broken.
The children get so excited every time they get to play them.
They love the drums the most. They look forward to playing the instruments when they come to music. If we don't play them, they ask when will they get a chance to play them again.Playing the percussion instruments is very enjoyable for the children and brings them much joy. These instruments also open doors to learning many parts of musical concepts. Please support our Music program by helping us purchase these instruments.
