The campus serves 465 students in grades pre-kinder through 8th grades. The campus serves a large percentage of students that are socioeconomically disadvantaged (95%), identified as At Risk (79%) and labeled as English Language Learners (31%).
The student population is predominantly of Hispanic descent (90%).
We educate all students by providing bilingual/dual language, gifted and talented, English as a Second Language and special education services to eligible students.
This desk will allow my students and I to be more flexible and healthier. Standing, rather than sitting, will help reduce shoulder and back pain. It will also allow an alternative to slouching over to see while sitting at a desk.
Standing desks allow for our students to focus on the task at hand.
It promotes movement that will energize and empower me to assist my students. The desk will also potentially assist with health benefits. There are findings that long hours of sitting are linked with a higher risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer (especially cancers of the colon or breast), and premature death. This will not only allow my students to focus on the task at hand but also care for their entire bodies.
