My students with autism and other special needs are excited to learn each and every day. Our school is located in a small, close knit community that has a passion for educating all students. Many of my students participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program.
My students with special needs face many challenges but work hard to learn and grow each day.
Providing my students with as many engaging opportunities to learn is of the utmost importance to me, so they can meet their goals and take pride in their learning.
My Project
My students with Autism need LEGOs, Magnatiles, Mad Matter, and other STEM activities to build a set of freetime activities that encourage interaction and creativity. These items will be used not only as incentive to complete goal based tasks, but also will provide opportunities for students to communicate and work together to complete tasks.
Many students with Autism struggle with socializing with their peers, but these STEM activities will give them structured and appropriate opportunities to practice invaluable social skills.
Taking turns, working together, listening to others, and communication, both verbal and through assistive technology, are skills that can be focused on while using these supplies.
