Help me give my students Elephant and Piggie Books and the books- Spot, Splatter, Scribble and Snippets to address articulation and expressive language skills.
My Kindergarten through 3rd grade students have a challenging time articulating sounds and expressing language, which impacts progress in reading and writing. Our diverse district is home to students speaking more than 100 different languages and dialects. Approximately 34% of students are English Language Learners and 15% of students require special education services. 85% of our students are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
Despite a long list of challenges, the students arrive at school every day with huge smiles, backpacks, laughter, and energy ready to take on the world.
Every day students discover and learn through rich classroom experiences and excitedly share with their families at home.
My Project
The books by Diane Alber: Not Just a SCRIBBLE, SPLATTER, SPOTS and SNIPPETS will give my students motivating, exciting ways to practice their speech sounds in context. They will make silly characters using the activity book and when they share the projects at home they'll naturally practice using their speech sounds again.
Elephant and Piggie books motivate my students to discuss story elements and practice inferencing skills.
The full set of Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems will provide my speech/language students practice in the areas of comparing and contrasting, finding opposites, discussing story elements and modulating the tone and volume of their voices to match those of Elephant and Piggie. These books bring punctuation to life and are oh, so much fun!
