I am a Pre-K teacher to 18 wonderful children in New York City.
Most of the children come from low-income families who are struggling to make ends meet. I am requesting an assortment of different books for our classroom. Our library has a limited number of books and I would like to add books that I know will appeal to the children. Many of the children do not have their own collection of picture books at home so I want to make books available to them at school.
I have been sending two books a week home with each child. The parents are working with me and see the importance of reading to their children daily. Parents have a big impact on their children as reading role models. My parents are interested in education and see the importance of reading to their children. They work with me and know that their attitude and involvement can make a big difference in their child's education. I have taught early childhood grades for twenty-five years and know the picture books the children will enjoy.
My Project
I have selected books that capture a child's imagination and interest. The books I have chosen will keep the children turning pages. I believe that children will desire to become life long readers if they are exposed early to books that appeal to them. Young children love books and to be read to. Please help me in my endeavor to enrich their lives with good literature. We are also in need of workbooks that will help solidify the learning of early childhood skills in literacy. The children do not tend to look back on their work when it is on loose sheets of paper. They really take pride in seeing their work in book form and will treasure these books for many years to come.
I also plan to make green eggs and ham with the class after reading the story in both English and Spanish. I am requesting a copy of this book for each child to treasure for many years to come. I plan to take a photo of each child eating the green eggs and adding this to the front cover of their new Dr.Seuss book.
