My students need a subscription to TIME for Kids to provide them with engaging, nonfiction reading.
This project expired on January 20, 2013.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
We know computers, we know video games and we know books, but what are magazines and how are they different from books. Help us take our reading to new places as we explore different kinds of writing/reading.
I teach reading and social studies to a group of lively second graders at a low income, high poverty inner city Texas school.
My students are excited about learning. With 50 students, there are a variety of interests when it comes to reading. I am looking to provide my students with a different kind of reading source from their normal books, TIME for Kids is a magazine, as well as getting away from the traditional fiction story with nonfiction.
TIME for Kids is a weekly magazine that will be a resource used to supplement learning. The magazine will provide students with nonfiction reading about a variety of subjects such as animals, holidays, national/public issues and environmental concerns. Each magazine has real life pictures, provide challenging vocabulary and have an activity to help the student understand the information.
TIME for Kids is a great resource for giving students information about the world around them that is relevant to today - information they otherwise would unlikely have exposure to.
Edition 2 (Grade 2) TIME For Kids is a weekly classroom newsmagazine that motivates kids to read. Edition 2 (geared towards 2nd grade students) helps build critical skills during this pivotal grade. Issues cover a wide range of real-world topics and themes kids love to learn about and it s the best nonfiction text you ll find!
