The students at our school are wonderful, hardworking, and motivated to learn. Our educators are passionate about growing the whole child and incorporating social/emotional learning character traits such as empathy, inclusion, and generosity into our lessons.
We are a Title I magnet school that integrates STEM into our curriculum to give students a hands-on problem solving approach to learning.
It is one of 116 public elementary schools in the county and serves a diverse population of 442 students in grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
My Project
The Student Support Team at our elementary is dedicated to teaching our students social emotional skills. We utilize the Second Step curriculum with Third through Fifth to provide evidence based learning opportunities weekly, to support students' emotional regulation and positive interaction with peers. We want to enrich our practice by building a Social Emotional Library based off the recommended reading that Second Step provides.
These books will facilitate students building an appreciation of self and one another while developing skills to succeed academically and socially in life.
The library will be accessible for students, families, teachers, and administration alike to check out and review the contents with students who could benefit from additional social emotional learning exposure and enriched conversations.
