Taking the Mystery out of Math

My students need practical experiences in number and operations, algebraic thinking, fractions, decimals, measurement and data, probability, and geometry. These materials will provide those practical experiences for my Special Education students.

My Students

I am a Special Education teacher in a school where over 80% of our students qualify for Free or Reduced lunches. Curriculum materials and manipulatives are in short supply in Oklahoma due to our legislature cutting funding to education over 28% in the past few years. As a result I have to cobble together lessons from online resources that I can no longer afford.

I need a math curriculum and manipulatives that follow national math standards designed for students with specific learning disabilities in grades 3, 4 and 5.

The curriculum needs to cover Number and Operations in Base Ten, Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Number and Operations - Fractions, Measurement and Data, Geometry, Analysis and Probability.

My Project

Demystifying abstract math concepts is key to mathematical success for Special Education students. My Special Education Resource Classroom is in need of materials to help students learn by accessing different learning modes. Students need access to printed materials, and manipulatives that allow them to access different modes of learning (i.e. Visual, Kinesthetic). Amazon resources like "Math Games for Number and Operations and Algebraic Thinking" will allow my students to demystify abstract math concepts by playing games using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In addition, the workbook "180 Days of Math Practice" will provide excellent Homework to practice concepts introduced in the classroom setting.
