Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 9th grade English at a junior high school in a city of about 86,000 people.
Eighty-eight percent of my students are minority, ninety-two percent qualify for free or reduced lunch, but one hundred percent are smart, amazing kids who deserve the best.
Many of them are independent, self-reliant people who have had to grown up quickly in their 14 or 15 short years. My goal is to make their time with me memorable and special.
Please help me accomplish my goal.
My Project
My students will be receiving new Chromebooks, provided by the district. This will be a paradigm shift for both teachers and students. We will have to learn how to change our teaching styles to adapt to 21st century learning, and our students will have to adapt their learning styles to make the most of their new equipment.
In order to make the most of their new Chromebooks, access to a mouse and earbuds or headphones is imperative.
These accessories will allow students to take charge of their learning. They will be able to watch videos to supplement the day's lesson, without disturbing their neighbors.
My students, as over 90% of them live in homes below the poverty line, will not be able to provide these items for themselves. Please help me provide my students with the access the equal education they deserve.
