This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Life as my students knew it, drastically changed in mid March 2020. When leaving school on Friday the 13th, they had no idea that it would be the last time they were able to learn within their school community, with their friends and teachers for quite some time. On Sunday, March 15th, they received the news that New York City Public Schools would be closed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic that was rapidly spreading through our city.
My school is a Title 1 school, and many students were now removed from one of the most stable, comforting, place in their lives and thrown into a world of uncertainty, without all the resources needed to benefit from their new "Remote Learning World".
Although our school staff and the NYC Department of Education has put forward their best efforts to support our students, it has still been a rough transition for some. Their has been delays in distribution of laptops due to high demand, students also have to cope with sick loved ones or homes now void of income, all of which creates stress for them. Despite all the obstacles my students are facing, they have continued to be surprisingly resilient.
My Project
My students and I have currently been working very hard during our remote learning. It has been a new process which we were suddenly thrust into. As their teacher I had limited time to gather teaching resources needed for instruction provided from my home.
Having a whiteboard and chart paper will allow me to enhance instruction that I provide to my students.
I be able to perform live step by step modeling for them, which is needed for many of my students to grasp certain concepts. It will also allow me to provide other visuals such as anchor charts and diagrams to support their learning.
