Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Future Leaders are the most resilient and smart little individuals that you can ever meet. Our goal is that at the end of the year ALL students will successfully complete Third Grade. Our chant shows our enthusiasm "What is our Goal?" Teacher says. Students respond, "Going to Fourth Grade!

My Third grade students come from a multicultural background, highly mobile community, and military affiliated.

Our school is located in a semi-urban city with limited economic growth. Almost 70% of our students come from households statistically identified as poor, which is reflected in the number of students that are enrolled in the Free/Reduced Lunch program. However, every day they show how motivated they are to become a valuable citizen of our community. Our schools serves not only as getaway for knowledge, but also it gives these students the opportunity to understand and value the importance of self-discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and commitment. My Future Leaders are striving for success and they show that enthusiasm every day.

My Project

Our school is an open concept which takes adjustment and a lot of discipline. Our classroom is one of the largest classroom in the school, however it doesn’t have the resources necessary to fulfill the students’ immediate needs. For example, because of the open concept we do not have walls so the equipment that can be use needs to be mobile and battery operated. A listening center with these characteristics will be very helpful in our classroom and will help us create a reading/listening area in our classroom. Reading comprehension activity cards will help the students practice their reading comprehension skills. An area that in which they have been struggling in the las couple of months. My students have shown a great interest in science, so a Science Activity Kit will help to nurture their interest. Who knows, maybe we have the next Einstein in our classroom.

The limited resources of our school district, school, and our students limits their learning process every day.

Adding new resources to the classroom will help students not only to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities, but also will motivate and encourage these young children. Third grade is a pivotal point in a young child’s development and we want to ensure that these students have an equal opportunity of success as students in schools with more resources.
