I am fortunate to teach some of the most creative, loving, and happy students. My students are in 4th grade and come to me for reading, spelling, language, and social studies. They all genuinely enjoy coming to school to learn, interact with peers, and share stories with myself and staff.
My classroom is a melting pot of personalities, backgrounds, and learning styles.
The students in my classroom enjoy moving about the room and engaging in hands-on, interactive activities. Both their bodies and minds are always on the move! As a result, I am constantly on the lookout for new ways to keep my students engaged and excited to learn.
My Project
I have attended the Get Your Teach On conference twice and both times I have walked away with more helpful and engaging ideas than I can count. I've met teachers from around the country and made connections with individuals that I would never have had the opportunity to do before attending the conferences. Many of the presenters at the conferences encourage getting parents and family members involved. Family and community involvement are a passion of mine because I want my students to feel as if they have a team supporting them throughout their educational career.
The great thing about the Next Level Conference is that it is still the Get Your Teach On creators and presenters but they are presenting on content tracks that are specific to the courses I teach.
It's been great listening to the math sessions at the previous conferences and finding ways to adapt what has been presented to fit the needs of my ELA classroom.
I want to walk away with more ideas on how to incorporate ELA activities into my teaching as well as find ways to provide families with tips on helping their child with reading and language. My hope is that I will gain ideas and information that I can share with staff members in my building that can be used when we host our yearly family reading night. This family reading night is a great way to garner family engagement and share information and activities with parents.
