As a teacher in a public charter high school, my classroom consists of students from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school provides an opportunity for children from local and neighboring towns to earn a valuable education and prepare them for life after high school. Whether students are entering the work force, military, or college, we have high expectations in all that they do.
My Science classes are full of students who are eager to learn but sometimes get defeated when they feel they don't know how to overcome certain learning obstacles.
My goal is to help my students make positive meaningful connections with the material they learn in the classroom - ultimately making them lifelong learners.
My Project
Being able to take meaningful notes and build appropriate review habits are essential life skills that students need to learn. Many students struggle with note taking and studying - students will write down everything they see and hear instead of finding a connection that will make the words/pictures/lesson more meaningful. As a result, students struggle when studying and often cannot recall the information. I am requesting an ELMO projector* to model note taking practices and teach the students new study habits.
These skills extend well beyond the classroom as students will need to use them when they further their education and enter the work force.
With the ELMO projector, students will be able to explore new ways of learning by making meaningful connections and taking meaningful notes which will positively impact their study habits.
With your support, students will be able to see the importance and benefit of meaningful notes and use them to become lifelong learners. Thank you in advance!
*The ELMO projector allows me to take notes with the students and projects them on the Smart Board in our classroom. It will also allow me to zoom in on demonstrations and visually explain processes in real-time.
