Taking Learning Outside of the Classroom With Technology
We need two Chromebooks to help with research and assessments done in class. The charging stations are to keep our current and future Chromebooks charged for optimum use.
I work with a group of kids who, in my very biased opinion, are the best in the world. These kids are so excited to come to school.
My kids have a passion for learning and want so badly to do so in a way that isn't "boring." I have kids who are very high, and kids who are extremely low and struggle with reading. My teaching has to reach all of these kids, and it is difficult at times.
A lot of these kids remind me of myself. My parents had enough to provide what was necessary, and I was a very talkative and active learner. I understand how these kids need to learn and feel engaged. I want to be able to provide for all of them inside the walls of my classroom. I want to make my classroom more engaging.
Having Chromebooks in the classroom has been and will continue to be such a blessing. My kids will use these to expand their knowledge of other cultures and world views. These will be used to research, assess, and create projects. Kids these days rely so heavily on the use of their technology that, in my opinion, it is so important that we incorporate it into our daily tasks in the classroom. These Chromebooks and charging stations will help tremendously with that.
Not only will these help academically, but also socially. I have this vision in my mind of having class discussion boards to allow the kids to give their views and opinions on historical topics that we discuss. I also use these a lot with my ELL students. The translators applications are very useful when they are trying to communicate with me and other students.
In Their Own Words
We use our technology so much. It would be much easier if teachers could use the same technology in their classrooms. We want these Chromebooks and charging stations so that we can use the skills that we already know and use on a daily basis in a way that is useful and educational.
I think in general if you give a student a piece of technology, they will show their leadership skills in how they take care of it. We also will show leadership by using them in the proper ways. These will be a privileged and it is our responsibility to take care of them and make sure we are getting our work done.
Not all students in our classes can afford technology. This project is important to us because it allows for those who don't have technology to be able to complete the same activities and assignments as everyone else. Worksheets aren't always going to work for us, but if it is presented to us in a way that we can understand (like Google Docs or Forms) we will do much better. Plus, our state test is on the computer. If we enhance our skills on the computer, it will help us do much better on the state assessment.
