My students are fantastic, young people with unlimited potential. They care about their learning and work hard to do their best. They come with a variety of learning needs and challenges, but also come with amazing gifts waiting to be uncovered and shared. It is important for them to see how what we are learning in class, applies to the real world.
My students love to be engaged and participate.
One of the ways we want to practice our vocabulary is with learning games, and we want to make sure to have enough so that everyone can participate.
My Project
I’d like to support my students’ learning in several different ways with this project. I like to utilize software to individualize grammar practice in order to focus practice time on the exact skills each student needs without wasting time on concepts they have already mastered. Many of these activities have sound, requiring the use of headphones. I do have access to some headphones, but many of students have commented that the style is painful for them to wear. These headphones will allow me to assure that all students will have access to comfortable yet still easy to clean headphones to use.
Language is fun, and the games will allow us to practice and reinforce language skills in an enjoyable and engaging way.
Bringing games to the classroom builds the feeling of community, lets the students practice social skills, while showing them the fun that can be had with words!
The white boards will be used with language practice activities for students both individually as well as in small groups. I have some of these boards, but need to get one more set of ten to meet classroom needs.
The final set of items will support actual, physical writing. Nothing feels better than a freshly sharpened pencil! These pencil sharpeners are the BEST! In my classroom I offer a variety of accommodations for students such as wiggle seats, and standing desk options, and I realized that my classroom could use some support options for my students with their fine-motor skills. The pencil grips will be usable for both right and left handed students for happy hands belonging to happy writers. Mechanical pencils and refills will give students another option to choose to use when writing. The timers will help manage taking turns at the standing desks.
