My Students
I have 32 amazing 4th grade students. They live in a high poverty area. They come from diverse backgrounds. The classroom makeup consist of varying ability levels. They are eager and motivated to learn on a daily basis. They are creative and spontaneous. They are determined to succeed. We welcomed several new students to our country from Puerto Rico that were displaced by hurricane Maria. Several of our students are living here with extended family members due to extended damage to their home in their country.
"Every student can learn just not on the same day or the same way." George Evans
Most of the students in my classroom are kinesthetic learners. They love engaging in activities that are hands on. They require differentiated activities, for their different learning styles.
My Project
My students are on different academic levels. This year, I structured my classroom using differentiated teaching techniques. Using small group instruction, my students' scores are increasing. Having more technology for students helps with centers when I'm working with small groups. It also helps with engaging students when student directed learning is in progress.
The most useful tools we use in the classroom are Laptops.
My students need laptops to help with differentiating in the classroom. They give students ways to be productive and creative. The students will use the MacBooks for graphic intensive assignments, creating videos, coding, apps that are used for classroom productivity, collaboration, and interactive learning experiences.
Having MacBooks would increase self-esteem by being able to work on differentiated activities at their own pace. It would also keep students engaged and increase their knowledge. They will be afforded the opportunity to have exposure to various programs.
In my classroom, the students that are displaced from hurricane Maria will have the opportunity to learn the English language through computer applications, learning to meet their needs at their pace, and project based learning.
