Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We live in south Texas and are part of a Title I district. I have a wonderful group of third grade kiddos in my class. My classroom consists of students with various learning styles. I have several students who are English language learners, some with special educational needs due to learning difficulties, including dyslexia, a couple who are gifted and talented, and others with ADHD and behavioral problems. This diverse group of students is always eager to learn and wild about incorporating anything hands-on or technology-related into their projects, assignments, and activities.
My students work hard daily, and their enthusiasm for learning grows when they hear that hands-on fun will somehow be involved in their work.
They have shown motivation, commitment, responsibility, and patience when it is time to use the limited amount of technology and other resources available in my classroom to complete assignments. They deserve the opportunity to extend and enrich their learning with more digital and creative learning devices and other resources for the classroom and our school.
My Project
I’ve selected this charging and storage tub to add to my classroom because it will allow my students to charge and store all of our robotics resources in one convenient spot with ease.
This charging tub will also help me teach my students about financial literacy, responsibility and organization.
I plan on incorporating this charging tub into the Classroom Job System. Students are assigned “jobs” where they carry out certain tasks throughout the week and rotate jobs weekly. These responsibilities not only help us keep the classroom running smoothly, but also teach students important life skills.
My students are "paid" with points that then transfer into "currency" which can be used for "needs" like pencils, paper and notebooks as well as "wants" including classroom incentives like snacks, free robotics/technology time, and school store goodies.
Robots and coding have helped me differentiate my instruction, too. I incorporate applications and activities that allow my students to practice and master STEAM skills that are always challenging for them. Students are able to learn through many areas of our curriculum in a fun and interactive way as they code and use their robots through various interactive assignments. This will help them tremendously in our modern world.
This charging and storage tub will not only keep our robots safe and fully charged for whenever needed, but also teach many lessons in the process!
