My students are amazing kids who need the chance to not only learn from books but from working together. We want to provide our students with a chance to learn how to work with others and take charge of their learning.
Our school is a Title 1 school, which means we have a high population of underprivileged and at-risk students on top of recovering from Hurricane Harvey.
As many of these students work to recover from Hurricane Harvey, education was not the number one priority for the first semester. These students need effective and engaging resources to bridge the gaps in their learning.
They will use the resources to build independence in their learning while working in small groups together. This allows the teacher to work with small groups at the same time. Breaking students into small groups has been proven to be a very effective method to improve student learning. Students who are able to take charge of their own learning are more likely to continue their education through college.
Please help me provide them with engaging and effective resources.
My Project
My students have had a rough year due to Hurricane Harvey. Many of them are still recovering from the floods. The Hurricane not only destroyed homes but it blocked learning time too. However, these students are still so eager to learn. The finding evidence kits, daily reading comprehension journals, reading games, comprehension games, math games, etc.. will allow students to work on key skills in student lead groups while the teacher works with intervention groups as well. The games will allow students to enjoy learning and encourage them to be successful in each skill. Student enjoy learning when they are able to play games or use white boards and markers.
Student lead learning is the most effective way to build life longer learners.
If they take charge of their education then they take ownership. We all take better care of things we own. Each of these kits allow the students to quickly and easily work on crucial skills they need before moving onto the next grade level.
