Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a public elementary school. My kids try hard and are always willing to get the work done. Last month, our school never opened up again after Spring Break.
8 out of 15 of my students have not had access to internet or an internet device for the last five weeks of at home learning.
I have kept in contact with my families through phone calls, text messages, and email. The students who do have access come to my Zoom meetings for whole group instruction and Reading Groups. They continue to impress me with their dedication and excitement.
My Project
As a first year teacher in the US, I did not begin the year with many books or materials. Now, as the year comes to an end, I find myself scrambling to create a makeshift white board and realizing how important it is that my class is able to just talk and connect.
I recently found out some of my kids are having a difficult time.
I don't have enough tools in my tool belt, which is why I'm asking for support. Using these materials, I hope to reach my students and continue to support their whole being.
