My students need tissues and bandaids to take care of our primary needs and scales, measuring cups, and cups to help us learn about health and nutrition.
As a teacher in a low-income and high-poverty school, our students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, our students deserve exceptional learning opportunities and an extraordinary learning environment.
My students are creative, collaborative, and full of spirit.
They like to move. They love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of our classrooms, we focus on their potential and growth while they are with us.
My Project
My class needs various basic supplies to ensure our health and wellness. These supplies will help all students to get a balanced education, which in turn will help them grow into self-sufficient and well-rounded young adults.
We need hygiene items such as bandaids and tissues to take care of health needs.
Tissues help prevent the spread of germs and ensure students are present in the classroom each day. Bandaids are a basic classroom essential which help us deal with minor cuts and scrapes inside the classroom and prevent students from being out of class at the nurse's office.
We will use the other items to learn about wellness and nutrition. The kitchen scales and measuring cups and spoons will help us learn how to measure portion size and will be useful during math and science lessons, too! Small and large cups will also help us as we work through nutrition, science, and STEM lessons.
