This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All of my students are individuals with disabilities, and many have multiple disabilities that impact their education. These disabilities vary from intellectual, cognitive processing, speech and language, physical, other health disabilities (epilepsy, ADHD), emotional or behavioral, and neurological (autism) disabilities. Additionally, we are a diverse community and diverse school, both economically and racially.

These students often find safety, warmth, and basic needs met at school along with learning experiences.

Learning theories and research indicate that students are more open to learning through brain development and neuron building when their basic human needs are met. To support their best at education entails supporting basic needs.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by providing for their care which often is a need at school. Many students are losing some of their first teeth and are interested in caring for their teeth and mouths. Students may come to school with inappropriate footwear, and giving them socks helps keep their feet warm and dry. On the go, snacks can help alleviate hunger at school and home (sent home). By providing for these basic human care needs, students can better focus on learning.
