My students need a variety of high quality literature to add to our library and to use for read alouds. The emphasis is on Common Core Exemplary Texts and Spanish, including a Spanish Language Conservation set and a Spanish Language Biology set.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." This Dr. Seuss quote shows what my students believe as they work tirelessly to learn and read as much as they can!
My students attend school on the west side of Chicago.
As I we embark on a new school year, many students are excitedly getting new school clothes and supplies, but not my students. Most of their families are unable to provide the resources for school so I work hard to do what I can to be there for each and every one of them.
Many of my students primarily speak Spanish but want to learn more and more English everyday. They recognize that being dedicated and trying to learn more everyday could mean they can change their situation. They have great respect for education and need the resources to help them learn and grow.
It is so important that they have great examples of the English Language, but also that they have some books in Spanish as well. That retention of their native language is important and will provide them with a foundation in English. I strive to provide them with high- quality literature that they can really learn from and apply to their knowledge base.
My Project
These books will clearly enhance our classroom library and give access to my students. They will be able to learn concepts in both languages that are important to us. I included many books that will expose my students to the elements of Common Core Standards, giving them access to books that can teach them important concepts and how English is used. I placed an emphasis on books that focus on nonfiction and the different cultures of the world. This will give my students the chance to relate to various cultures and ideas, while broadening their knowledge of the world. It is so important that they realize that they can take control of their learning and they have a choice, a choice to make a better lives for themselves and their families.
Do you remember the first book you read?
Recall the feelings you've had over the years as you read for pleasure or to learn more facts. My students deserve the chance to become lifelong readers, with the power to read for pleasure and for knowledge. They need to nurture their knowledge of Spanish and be given access to the English language at its best. With these resources, my students will have many opportunities for learning, discussing and speaking; giving them all the chance they deserve!
