Taking advantage of used books to promote reading across the school. This is a great way to facilitate a love for reading by swapping gently used books among students.
My students are hard working students and high achievers.
They attend one of the best schools in the city. However, the majority of my students are minorities and my school has a student body with high poverty rate. Many of the students do not have a lot of books in their homes. By exchanging used books, students could enjoy reading more books without spending more money.
My Project
The Book Swap Team’s goal is help students exchange popular literature and promote reading. Team members are avid readers and strong leaders. Their love for reading takes them to the next level. With dedication and enthusiasm, they prepared and organized the Book Swap activities during their free time. They visited divisions, explaining to the students about how this program works:
Students bring their gently used books to the library to be sorted by the Book Swap Team members. Students receive a ticket for each book that they bring and they can exchange for a "new to them' book for each ticket they have earned.
Book Swap also helps reduce carbon footprint and keep our school green.
This activity is held during after-school hours and it is run and coordinated by students.
In order to better help students run this program, we need two mobile bookshelves so that the team could have a place to store the used books and move the bookshelves easily around in the school. Please help our team!!!
