Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Social studies is my one true love and it reflects in my classroom. Students are elected to jobs by their peers and current events are a constant debate during our free time. My students are allowed a half an hour a month of something they want to learn about. We have covered topics from world wars, to ALS (when Sponge Bob’s creator died) and even ancient Sparta. I work in an extraordinarily small county of a little under 30,000 and my school has less than 100 students. This school has so much culture, it would make any anthropologist drool.

In this class, we build a community around something most grownups don’t understand; contradictory elements can and should co-exist.

We don’t have to be the same, though we are, but at the same time we are completely different.

3rd and 4th grade sounded scary at first but they have turned out to be an exciting group of mixed personalities interests, abilities, and goals. My group loves to play outside, learn new games (Hoola Hut Survival and Frisbee are their favorites), and sing to an Alexa produced tune.

My Project

The use of portable desks is almost a daily activity in my classroom, as alternative seating. Using alternative seating has been amazing for attention deficit issues. My end goal is to have 32 of these so that my classroom can function completely outside amongst our great backdrop of tall redwood trees. This is the final fundraiser so with the completion of this one we will be done getting portable desks.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement and their love of the outdoors.

Picture this, Mr. Wright and 32 students outside learning under the picturesque canopy of the plant that has made our county world famous, the sequoia sempervirens. Every tool that I have to keep my students engaged I use and I have found that this tool is one of the best
