My Students

Students who would benefit from this project would be first generation college bound students. These students would not be on any one's radar but should be. They are capable academic students who are lost on how to get to college. The students come from families who have not attended college or had a sibling go to college.

Students identified as first generation college students will be selected for this trip to open their eyes to the college campus and college activities.

Through this project, the students will see that college is a possibility for them.

My Project

First generation college students are defined as students who's parents or siblings have not been to college. Because their family hasn't had the experience of going to college or understanding the process, these students typically do not know where to begin.

Studies show that first generation college students are less likely to attend college right out of high school; we want to change that.

Through this grant, we plan to take our junior self identified first generation students to tour a community college and a university in our area. Data states that by touring a college campus, students have a higher chance of enrolling. Students are able to ask questions in person, get a feel for the environment, and experience a true college campus.
