At the end of the year, I would like for my students to be aware of global occurrences and current events. I would like them to be aware and involved citizens that better understand how decisions made today will impact them when they become adults.
My students are inquisitive individuals that are very curious as to why the world is in its current situation.
My students come from very diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds that lend to very spirited debates and intriguing dialog throughout the course of the class. My students are future world leaders that look to seek positive change in the world today, but to continue that plight as they become politically involved and even more aware adults.
My Project
Students are required to present a current events article in the class's current geographical area of study. The events should be something that the student is either passionate or curious about the topic. The use of the two Apple iPads with protection plans will enable students to quickly find articles to present and will enable them to explore other applications and forums to explore varying views on the topic as it is important that students research how others feel and why in presenting a fair and balanced report. In addition to researching information for their current events projects, students will have the option of using movie making options on the tablet to make creative, innovative presentations.
The addition of this technology will improve my classroom in many different ways.
One way is it will inspire students to be more creative and enable them to produce finished, polished products that could eventually be added to their International Baccalaureate portfolios at the conclusion of each semester that they will take with them through high school. It will also improve the level of engagement in the classroom as students become eager and competitive to complete creative projects.
