I have an awesome group of 5th grade students. I teach Math to about 80 students everyday. My students are a mixture of special education students and regular education students. My students love to learn math in fun and different ways. They learn through games and using technology. We are lucky that we have gone one-to-one with Chromebooks.
Over 60% of our students are from a low income family.
As a teacher in a low-income high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of school. Parents struggle to provide them with the necessities needed for school. Many students come to school without a pencil every day. Even with these challenges, my students come eager to learn. They are funny, smart, and active.
My Project
Each day, most of my students sit for hours in the classroom. I am requesting two standing desks for my classroom in order to reduce sitting time and to increase standing time. Most days during my class I have a minimum of two students who stand in the back of my classroom. Usually these students share a podium to use to write on. Others choose to stand and hold a clipboard to write on. It would be nice to offer a desk for these students to stand at and work. Standing desks would allow my students to be more focused. I need your support to gift my students with these standing desks.
