Pre-K is the beginning of a wonderful educational journey for my students. My Pre-K students are just beginning to explore and learn so many new skills and exploring new ideas. My classroom is a Special Education Pre-School classroom where all students are being taught together. Half of my students consist of students with varying exceptionalities and half are general education students.
My student's exceptionalities vary from Specific Learning Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional and Behavioral Disability, Intellectual Disability, Attention Deficit Hyper-Active Disorder, Speech and Language Disability, Developmentally Delayed and ESOL students.
I provide my student's with individualized instruction to meet their needs, and work with other professionals, for example, those who provide them therapies. The students needs are met all while learning alongside neuro-typical classmates.
Most of my students come from low-income households. Many of them, are children who have recently come into this country. While others come from working-class families. A majority receive free and reduced lunch, but they are all here to explore and learn! I enjoy being able to work with students who are eager to learn everyday, their curiosity leads them to exploring new skills all with a huge smile!
My Project
Providing students with a Document Camera allows them to better view our books, illustrations, nursery rhymes and so much more! When there are twenty wiggly children on the carpet, it is often difficult for them to view our shared reading books! When we are working on our large easel papers, I would benefit from a stand so that all children can see what I am writing.
Document camera can not only help us read our stories, but we can also show and manipulate the students work.
The students can help each other by displaying their art. The document camera will allow me to display all classroom materials on a larger scale. We can even view very small items from our science center to observe details as a whole group. What a great tool this would be for our visual learners.
Both, the Spiral-Bound Flip Chart and the Document Camera would allow my Special Education students to learn so much! I love to sit on the rug and be at eye level with my students. Having both of these materials will allow me to continue to due this, and also display materials a lot better for my students.
