The PreK students at my school come from a wide socio-economic range with many of the students having experienced many stressors and trauma in their lives. Many experience food insecurity and unstable living situations and many have not had a consistent emphasis on oral health in their homes. It is not uncommon for children in this age group to have had multiple tooth extractions due to tooth decay.
Our goal is to help students develop healthy dental care habits that can last their life time.
By providing a wide range of dental related materials, such as teeth models, books on dental health and posters, we can help them to develop the ability, and an appreciation of, the importance of dental health.
I love how inquisitive and open-minded students are at this age. They are eager to learn, share and try new things. I hope that they find these materials help them to develop healthy life long dental habits.
My Project
These materials will help to give the children hands on learning about teeth and how to take care of them.
With the dental kits and big teeth models, we will be able to set up a dental clinic in our dramatic area where our children can explore independently.
The dinosaur with teeth will provide the children a chance to practice what they are learning.
Young children love to listen to stories. These books will provide an engaging way to learn about dental health. The books will help them to know what to anticipate when they visit a dentist. But mostly, it will provide hands-on opportunities for learning.
