Mr. Shoff from Baton Rouge LA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need mobile technology that will allow us to take advantage of a large campus which allows us to go outside, document math and science in a natural setting.

We are fortunate to be situated on a campus with easy access to the outdoors. This allows my students to go outside and see many of the math and science concepts that I teach in a practical real world setting. I want them to touch, see, hear, smell and yes taste the math and science around them.
These a active and bright students who are wiser than their years.
They are quick to pick up new ideas and concepts but have struggles applying it to their lives. Their experiences are limited and often don't go beyond school, home and the playground. Showing them how to measure the chain link fence around the school many different ways is experiencing the math. Identifying matter in the playground and how it changes is experiencing the science.
The iPads are equipped with photo and video cameras that will allow a group to document activities that relate to our learning targets. The stylus will allow them to annotate the pictures and videos allowing them to identify where exactly the specific concepts occur. Movie editing software allows them to piece together their work into a justification for the application of the particular objectives for their assignment.
Applied learning is the core of the College and Career emphasis of our State's educational model.
At fifth grade the students know most of the math concepts they need to know but putting it into context with the real world will show them the connection with their lives. It will also foster working together to create and present arguments to support their findings.
