Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of fun-loving fourth graders who come from low socioeconomic status families in a racially diverse community. They are eager to explore and try new things, despite them not having much opportunity to do so. Many of them are first-generation Americans and are the first in their family to aspire to go to college.
The community rallies around the students to help them succeed.
Many of my students are trying to become first-generation college students. They live in a community where English is their second language. I have students from all over Latin America and Asia. Most of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and it is my job to help close the achievement gap and meet their academic needs.
My Project
I am requestioning art supplies that will allow my students to have the required materials needed for my Living Museum project. Students will choose a past or present person to research that has made a difference in our world. After researching their person, my student will engage in a writing/art project that will bring history to life. Aside from doing a legacy writing, where students will write about all the important facts and details about their person's life, my students will also get to be them for the day!
It is important for students to express themselves through art and supplement the traditional subjects with art to extend their learning.
The project boards, crayons, markers, tape, and post it pads will allow my students to plan and work on their art projects that will allow them to express themselves creatively. Many of my students come from low-income families, and having an opportunity to express themselves freely is so important.
