Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students come from difficult living situations, walk dangerous streets to and from school and struggle academically. Although there are many obstacles in their paths, my students leave that all behind when they enter my class.
They are focused, eager learners that want nothing more than to make their teachers and family proud.
My students are great with technology and strive to learn as much as they can about video and broadcasting. With enrollment declining, there is not as much money to go around for special projects like this.
My Project
Foundations of Film is part of the Arts, Media, and Entertainment Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway. Students will learn collaboration skills working in a Film Crew. My students will take their creative ideas like music videos, movie trailers, self-explorations, current events, commercials and public service announcements through planning, storyboards, and script writing during Pre-Production. Students record video and sound during Production. In Post Production, students edit sound and video and add graphics to create a polished professional product. These skills translate not only to possible jobs in the Film/Video Industry but to other workplace settings as well as college. My students are working hard to master the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century.
My students need to get hands on experience using professional industry equipment.
We need Zoom portable recorders and professional shotgun microphones to record better audio and dialog for movies. This will allow the students to sync the audio later in post production to be able to learn more about audio engineering. We plan to focus not just on the image in our projects this year, but perfecting the capture of sound. All of these items are powered buy batteries and the sound department goes through many to power all of the devices throughout the day. Interviews will be a greater focus for our news show this year so having heightened director chairs will help with this in the studio and directors can use them to watch shots on monitors. Crew members will use gaffers tape to mark equipment, hot cards and spots for actors. Media storage is crucial to keeping everything in order. Color correcting gels will be used with our lighting set ups in the to create different moods and times of day. Sandbags are needed to keep sets safe.
