Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school. The majority of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch and come from homes where English is their second language. A considerable percentage of the population is not meeting standards.
Many of my students come to school with little life experience.
They have not had the opportunity to experience things such as traveling on vacations or even watching a play at the theater. Even though they have daily obstacles to overcome, they come to school eager to learn. Once they enter my classroom, I want them to be assured that they are in a safe learning environment and that anything is possible!
My Project
Sir Richard Steele said, "Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." I completely agree with him and want my students "exercising" their minds every day! In order to do this, I need to provide my students with quality book choices.
We are requesting a spinning shelf to display graphic novels in our classroom library.
The spinning shelf will allow me to display and organize our books so that my students can easily find them. Right now, the graphic novels are flying off our bookshelves.
With the current shelf I have, the students waste a lot of time looking for the book they want. This spinning shelf will allow us to categorize them by series or topics so that students can quickly start to "exercise" their minds.
