I am the technology specialist and computer lab teacher at Glen Rose Elementary. Teachers in my school check out digital cameras from me to use for learning projects. They create student books, PowerPoints, movies, and all different kinds of artwork using the digital cameras. You cannot walk down the halls without seeing projects done utilizing photos taken. Many of these projects, such as digital story telling, I assist with in our 65-station computer lab. Many are also accomplished in the classroom on their one computer in the classroom. Teachers and I also use the cameras for communication with parents and the community via websites and newsletters sent home. We have several digital cameras in the school but it is never enough to go around. I am always telling teachers that I do not have a camera for them to use. Check out the campus website and classroom websites to see some examples of how the cameras are used: http://www.grisd.net/campuses/gres/index.cfm. I would love to have additional cameras in the school so that the teachers and I will have the tools necessary to accomplish learning projects with students. The level of excitement and pride that photos add to any project helps to increase student learning.
