Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach a group of 19 five and six-year-olds from all sorts of academic, socio-economic, cultural, and family backgrounds. Although different, they primarily share a low socioeconomic household. I teach at a public school in west Tennessee, and our school shares the same type of background as my group of children. Well over 80% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Overall, my group of students is excited to be in school, some for the first time, and love anything that makes them feel like a "big kid."

My Project

This project will help cover the cost of registration for the Get Your Teach On national conference in Orlando, FL. I attended this conference two years ago and absolutely loved it. It rejuvenated me as an educator and I would love the opportunity to attend again, hopefully with some of my colleagues.

For me, I want to grow as an early childhood educator.

When you find professional development that focuses on what I am passionate about, then it will be worth it for both my students and myself.

I actually enjoy attending professional developments, but I find that the ones my district offers are very general and geared towards all grades as a whole. I want to be surrounded by teachers who are excited about kindergarten and want to share ideas that will actually help me in my classroom. This conference is the one to do that! I can't wait to meet educators who I only know from online and just be in the presence of people who are ready and excited to GET THEIR TEACH ON!
