Take Me on a Magic Carpet Ride!

My Students

Imagine sitting on a carpet, ready to hear the most fascinating book that you have ever seen. What if the magic of the book is lost because you are squished between your fellow classmates and there is no room to move?

My scholars are energetic Kindergarteners.

This is the first learning experience for many of my scholars. They are eager to learn and always hungry for knowledge. Their favorite activities are reading amazing books, science, and math. Our school is a charter school where we believe that knowledge is power and in order to gain that power, you have to work extremely hard in school. Our students and teachers work longer than a typical school day so that everyone can learn as much as possible. Our scholars are working towards being victorious in primary school so that they can achieve middle school, high school, and attend any college of their choosing.

My Project

Our carpet for our classroom is essential to learning. We spend about 50% of our learning time sitting on the carpet engaging in discourse about what we have learned. Our students will be able to sit at the carpet comfortably without the distraction of being bumped, squished, or touched. This carpet will impact all learning subjects. For example, in the morning, our family meeting is held at the carpet. This is the time where we teach social skills and go over important character building words and strategies. We also review important announcements for the day. In reading, we do our mini lesson on the carpet where they learn strategies on how to become an excellent reader. In math, we hold a discourse on the carpet about how students arrived at their answers.

This carpet will help create a personal space for each of my students so that the worry of being too close to someone is taken away.
