Our school is in a small rural town. A large percentage of our students are eligible for Free and Reduced-Price Lunch and come from homes that are economically disadvantaged. There is a population of students from Somalia, Kenya, and Mexico, who are learning English as a second language.
My special education students have intellectual, learning and social emotional needs.
We problem solve daily to find what learning environment best fits their individual need for the day. Every child learns at a different rate and in a variety of ways. All of the students that I service have a targeted disability within the area of reading.
My Project
My students have requested books at their independent reading levels that are not geared toward elementary students. The books that we have found are high interest to middle school students.
These books will help my students be better readers, engage in reading as a leisure activity, and encourage their growth in reading different points of view.
These series will also allow my students to read at their independent reading level, but with age appropriate materials. These books will help my students be better readers, help them learn to hold better book discussions, and even encourage them to love reading.
I can assure you that helping to fund this project will make a difference in the lives of my students!
