Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students from New Brunswick, New Jersey are spirited, energetic, and diverse. My students all receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch from our district. My schools serves children in Pre-K through Eighth Grade. This year our class sizes are very large.
My students love to share ideas, stories and personal experiences.
They are creative problem solvers who are eager to understand "how" and "why" things work. While their families are loving and supportive, many lack the resources needed to give their children the extra supplies needed to be successful during distance learning.
Most of the parents have a language barrier and have a difficult time assisting their children with daily school work. The resources and supplies I am requesting will allow me to meet all the children where they are and help them to learn and grow.
My Project
Our district will be participating in distance learning for the first two semesters of the 2020-2021 school year. Most of our students are sharing a work space in their homes with one or more siblings, the headphones will help the students concentrate on their meets and lessons and block out background noise and distractions. We use whiteboards in our classroom daily for both math and literacy activities. We use whiteboards during math for guided practice and for students to model different strategies. We use them during literacy activities for graphics practice, to write sentences, and practice phonics skills. The whiteboards allow me to see how the students are doing, as well as, provides them a fun and easy place for them to show and share their work. We will continue to use them everyday during distance learning and when we return to the classroom.

As we begin mathematical instruction, my kindergartners learn much faster and with more depth when participating in hands-on activities. The two sided counters and unfix cubes will be used to develop number sense and will be used again as we move on to addition and subtraction instruction.
In the best of times, it is difficult for many of our parents to afford the supplies their children need to be successful in school. The pencils, erasers, dry erase markers will help the children complete their assignments to the best of their ability.
