I work at an International Baccalaureate Spanish and Chinese immersion elementary school where students receive most of their instruction in a second language. The IB curriculum focuses on developing internationally minded students who can think critically to solve problems.
My students are 4th and 5th graders who are more than a grade level behind in literacy skills and need support beyond what can be provided within their regular classrooms.
I provide extra literacy support in individual and small group settings to assist these students in meeting grade-level literacy goals.
My students are behind grade level in literacy, and one specific literacy skill that they struggle with is vocabulary. We have resources to help students with fluency, phonics, and comprehension, but we have a need for resources to help students with vocabulary.
The Take Aim At Vocabulary instructional program from Read Naturally will help my students develop the skills they need to figure out word meaning from context and build the base vocabulary needed to understand grade level text.
This program not only teaches new vocabulary, but also teaches skills for word-learning so that students can apply these skills to continue to learn new vocabulary outside of the program.
