Help me give my students the opportunity to increase their Literacy skills while learning about American history in a fun and exciting way with Rush Revere's book series.
The demographic makeup of my third-grade class varies as well as my student’s needs. My class consists of 8 girls and 10 boys. Of my 8 girls, 6 of them are white and 1 is African American, and 1 Hispanic. Of my 10 boys, 9 are white and 1 is African American. The socio-economic status group in my class is medium to low. Several of my students depend on their grandparents to care for them. As their individual needs vary so do their academic needs. I have 2 students that have been retained in third grade and are now making gains and performing on grade level.
Daily small group interventions are implemented to target these student’s needs.
Furthermore, 3 students in my class receive speech language interventions two days a week and two students in my class have been diagnosed with ADHD and take medication daily. When not on their medication, these students exhibit characteristics of irritability, restlessness and inattentiveness which can result in incomplete assignments.
My Project
The Rush Revere book series will be used in my third-grade class to teach Literacy skills while teaching American history in a fun and engaging way so that students will have a meaningful way of understanding the founding of our country.
This series takes the readers back through time travel to witness exceptional events and meet incredible people in American history.
These books will implemented into my Social Studies program and be read daily to increase fluency and comprehension skills. After reading each series, book projects, such as written assignments, reader's theater, or presentations will to assigned as a learning extension.
