I’ve had the joy of teaching choir to middle school kids for over 20 years. I am fortunate that I teach passionate, talented students. The middle school person is so much fun and I love to help shape them into life-long lovers of music. I teach over 300 students at my middle school and hope to continue educate more young minds. Our school is in a relatively rural area. I do as much as I can to create opportunities for my students to see the different parts of the United Stands as well as international.
My classes have a large spectrum of personalities, backgrounds, and walks of life.
Music is what brings us all together. I am happy that my classroom is where young people can accept their differences and come together for a common goal, making beautiful music.
My Project
I love to teach my choir students using kinesthetic gestures in the choral classroom. Unfortunately with holding music, we are restricted with how much we can move prior to having the music memorized.
I think music should be felt AND heard, so I encourage my students to use their full body while singing.
The students are more emotionally connected to the music if they FEEL the music. The high school that my middle school feeds into has a class set of these music stands. The high school students have loved to used these music stands and have helped them incorporate movement earlier in the music learning process. I would like to provide my students with the same opportunity to move while singing as the high school has. Please help my students get these materials in our classroom!
